Dundee West turned in a vintage display on the night they were presented with the SFL-Dundee 2018/19 trophy.
West saw out the season with an impressive 100% winning record as they downed Dryburgh 8-1 on the final league matchday at DISC, a fixture card re-arranged from earlier in the campaign. Back in January, Montrose saw off Dundee University 3-2 before a serious injury curtailed the rest of the night’s action.
That only delayed West’s march to their perfect league campaign, however, as goals from Declan Gallagher (4), Jamie Reilly (2), Mikey Craig and an own goal did the damage this week.
Matthew Ross notched Dryburgh’s consolation as they finished the season in bottom spot.
Dundee Celtic and St Andrews University produced an 11-goal thriller as Celtic won through 7-4 to end the uni side’s hopes of finishing second.
Alex Gibb got a hat-trick with Finn Robson (2), Dom Duffy and Flynn Duffy also weighing in. An own goal, Benjamin Lintern, Sam Hall and Youssef Abdelfattah counted for St Andrews.
That result means it’s Montrose who end the season as runners-up to Dundee West, with Dundee University in fourth spot between St Andrews above and Celtic below.
In the final match of the league season, Dundee Stars won through in a real battle with Dundee West FD with Faisal Ahmed’s strike on 16 minutes proving enough for the young side to finish on a high with a 1-0 success.
That saw Stars finish six points ahead of FD with West’s second side locked on points with Dryburgh at the foot of the final league table.
